After countless gatherings, workshops, performances, fundraisers and poem-sharing, we bring you F-5. A collection of poems dating back to the first Nogales Poetry Club meeting, when 17 students convened in one room, simply happy to assemble with other students like themselves who loved poetry. We bring you the voice of Nogales High and its surroundings. We bring you these calloused pages with tears of joy and sadness,edited, re-edited, marinated and seasoned to the perfect taste. It’s those adjectives, verbs, fragments and run-on sentences working together to form the perfect gumbo. We bring you La Puente, West Covina and Walnut, California. Three vastly different cities with perfect boundaries forming the perfect cloth that make Nogales what it is. It is that same cloth that protects once a week and helps to provide a safe space in room F-5 for all who walk through the door.

"Every Tuesday during lunch since 2007, something magical was brewing on the south side of the Nogales High School Campus. Students of different ethnicities, interests, styles and flava, armed themselves with pens, journals, and composition books in an effort to hone a skill already embedded in their DNA. All brought poems. Some written, some still scrambled throughout the brain and heart, figuring out a way to find their way to the page. Some still in the process, lingering for that perfect ending or that perfect stanza to complete the thought. The thinking that drives many of us to feel the need to express ourselves in a creative way drove these teenagers to the equivalent."
